Breeds List
THE DOMESTIC DUCK AND GOOSE BREEDS bred here at Holderread Waterfowl Farm & Preservation Center are listed below. Some breeds have more than one variety. Varieties are distinguished from one another by their plumage color or some other distinctive physical characteristics.
A WEB PAGE ON EACH BREED will be posted as time allows. Breed information is available in Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks, The Book of Geese and Breed Bulletins. These publications were authored by Dave Holderread and can be ordered from our catalog.
MATURE BIRDS AND DAY-OLDS ARE SOLD and shipped in most breeds we raise. However, those varieties with an asterisk* are sold only as mature birds. Ducklings and goslings are available from late March through early June. Because mature birds produce a fair amount of body heat, for their well being, adults are shipped only during cool weather. Our main shipping season for adult stock is October to February. When available, mature birds can be picked-up at the Preservation Center the year round. THE AMERICAN POULTRY ASSOCIATION divides breeds of ducks into four classes based on body weight. The following breeds and varieties are raised and studied here at The Preservation Center.

Goose Breeds & Varieties
The American Poultry Association divides breeds of geese into three classes based on body weight. The following breeds and varieties are raised and studied here at The Preservation Center.
HEAVY WEIGHT GOOSE CLASS
African Geese (sometimes called Giant Dewlap African or Super African): Brown and Buff
